We would like to revitalise the arcade and upgrade the retail units, bringing in new tenants for the empty shops. We are seeking a mixture of uses, from food stores and other types of retailers, to cafes, bars and restaurants.
The original plans had included a new cinema as part of a development incorporating significant retail uses. However, the cinema operator was unable to make a commercial commitment after plans were rejected in January 2020. While the new proposals will represent a significant scaling back of the proposals, Firmstone remains keen to explore other commercial and retail opportunities as part of the residential-led mixed use regeneration of the site.
“We were very disappointed our original scheme was refused as we felt it was the best option for SCP, East Street and Bedminster. It would have brought life, investment and contributed to the night-time economy, all of which are essential for a neighbourhood to thrive.”
We aspire to create a place that people will love to live, work and shop. Our first plans build on the success of Catherine’s House and represent the best opportunity to regenerate this run down site and contribute positively to the regeneration of East Street and Bedminster.
