We’re really pleased to be able to wish the community in Bedminster an early ‘Happy Christmas’ with some extra funding to help festive celebrations by sponsoring three Christmas events in BS3 this December.
We provided backing for three much-loved local events, which add seasonal cheer to the streets of Bedminster, bring the community together and support the local high street, contributing nearly £5,000 towards the East Street Christmas Fayre, the Bedminster Christmas Lights and the Bedminster Winter Lantern Parade. Combined with its support of the international street art and graffiti celebration, Upfest, this brings our overall sponsorship this year to over £12,000.
Francis Firmstone, director of Firmstone Developments said; “When we heard these events could be in jeopardy due to a shortfall in their funding, we felt it was important to help, given how important this time of year is for local retailers and residents alike. We’re really pleased to be able to wish the people of Bedminster an early ‘Happy Christmas’ with some extra funding to support the festive celebrations planned for the area.”
A spokesperson for the Bedminster BID, which organises the Bedminster Christmas Lights and East Street Christmas Fayre, said: “We are grateful to Firmstone for stepping in whilst our funding was temporarily slashed and bringing a little festive cheer to the area at such a key time of the year for local retailers and businesses.
“We all know that traditional high streets are struggling badly with some serious commentators and even major owners such as Mike Ashley (Sports Direct, House of Fraser) questioning whether they will survive at all. Thus developers such as Firmstone stepping into a high-risk redevelopment such as St Catherine’s Place which has been a blight on the area for over a decade, will be so important in helping to revive this part of Bedminster.”
The hugely popular festive Christmas Fayre returned to East Street last weekend, kicking off a season of festival fun south of the river. Bags of Christmas spirit, tasty treats and plenty of stocking fillers made it the perfect festive family day out, with the Christmas Lights providing a cheery sparkle to the street.
The Bedminster Winter Lantern Parade, south Bristol’s biggest community event, sees over 3,000 people fill the streets of BS3 every December to watch a truly spectacular procession of around 1,500 people and thousands of illuminated lanterns, accompanied by some swinging sounds. With organisers promising this year will be the most spectacular yet, it’s a date not to be missed. Revellers can head down to North Street on Saturday 8th December from 4pm and join in the fun.
