Show apartments furnished with items from local stores, proving buyers can create a stylish home on a budget

Over 90% of the apartments at Catherine’s House in Bedminster have been snapped up, with 50 of the 54 homes now reserved.

Created in a former office block, the new homes have proved hugely popular with local buyers since they were launched in early June, with two fully furnished one-bedroom and two-bedroom show apartments available to view.

Firmstone Developments, the developer behind the scheme, decided to furnish the show apartments with budget-friendly items from local shops, including along East Street and at Windmill City Farm.

Proving buyers can create a stylish home on a budget, items from local retailers included ceramics and soap from Windmill City Farm gift shop, new and recycled pieces of furniture and beds from British Heart Foundation, lamps from PoundStretcher plus cushions and towels from Wilkinsons. Finishing touches to the apartments included books, candles and plants sourced from Poundland and Bedminster Flowers respectively. The art used in the apartment was kindly provided by Upfest following Firmstone’s support of the festival.

Becky Dolman, land and new homes marketing manager at Ocean, said: “It’s the norm to see show apartments decked out with pricey furniture, accessories and fabrics that are out of reach for many first-time buyers and those on a tight budget.”

“We wanted to prove that you don’t have to spend a fortune to create a beautiful, stylish home and hopefully the apartments will inspire potential buyers to head to their local high street to furnish their new homes.”

The apartments mark the first step in the regeneration of St Catherine’s Place, a one-acre site bordered by Dalby Avenue to the east and south and East Street to the north. The site consists of a vacant office building (Catherine’s House) together with a purpose-built shopping centre dating back to the late 1960s and flats above.

Dolman added: “We’re delighted that 75% of the apartments reserved so far have gone to local buyers. It’s rare to find apartments of this quality and specification at this price in Bedminster so it is not surprising that they have proved so popular, with all of the two-bedroom apartments now reserved and only 4 one-bedroom apartments left.”

The new homes at Catherine House are designed for modern living and offer plenty of natural light. Many have dual aspect windows and far-reaching views from Dundry to the East and as far as the Suspension Bridge to the north West. The properties are just a short walk away from Bedminster’s independent shops, bars and restaurants, cultural attractions and parks.

The apartments offer flexible living spaces with fully-equipped kitchen areas featuring contemporary grey units topped with composite stone worktops. The grey carpets add a touch of warmth and comfort to the double bedrooms, most of which have built-in wardrobes, and every apartment has a spacious contemporary bathroom or shower room (with some benefitting from an en-suite). The neutral interior design allows homeowners to put their own finishing touches to their new home.
