Firmstone Developments is a Bristol-based property developer which has been involved in the regeneration of Bedminster since 2001, where it has created over 400 new homes. The firm’s schemes in the area span from small regeneration projects like national award-winning The Pantile on Westbourne Grove and Farley’s Yard on Coronation Road to large-scale mixed use regeneration projects.
“We are delighted to be returning to Bedminster for our next project, which is a very exciting one for us. St Catherine’s Place has huge potential; to create badly-needed new homes; a vibrant retail and leisure hub for the local area; and help kick-start the regeneration of this part of Bedminster” Francis Firmstone, director, Firmstone Developments
Bedminster’s population jumped from 3,000 in 1801 to 78,000 in 1884, as people from depressed rural Somerset flocked to the new coalfields for work. Almost overnight Bedminster became a powerhouse of heavy industry, manned by a huge workforce packed into high-density terraced housing. Coal mining and smelting generated other industries: engineering, tanneries, glue-works, paint factories and glassworks.
